A mobile hotspot turns your phone into the router for a laptop or tablet, and the JiLi333 lobby then loads on the bigger screen. The cost is paid by your phone: its mobile data plan and its battery.

This page belongs to the JiLi333 mobile setup overview. It follows what Apple and Google print about the feature, covers Low Data Mode, and ends with a data example whose numbers are chosen for this page, not measurements.

The lobby does not change on a bigger screen. Its page is one phone-width column of about 486 px, centred on a desktop screen, with the same Login and Register entries in the header.

Personal hotspot on an iPhone

Apple’s guide says Personal Hotspot shares your iPhone’s cellular connection with another iPhone, an iPad, a Mac, a Windows device and more. It adds that Personal Hotspot is not available with all carriers, that additional fees may apply, and that the number of devices that can join depends on your carrier and iPhone model.

  1. On your iPhone, open Settings and tap Cellular, then tap Set Up Personal Hotspot and follow the onscreen instructions.
  2. Open Settings and tap Personal Hotspot to turn it on and off.
  3. On the laptop or tablet, open its Wi-Fi settings and choose your iPhone by name.
  4. Enter the password you set up.

Apple notes you can only share the cellular connection. You cannot connect the iPhone to a Wi-Fi network and then share that network with another device.

Problem

You see no Set Up Personal Hotspot option.

Fix

Apple says that if Cellular Data is on but the option is missing, you contact your carrier about adding Personal Hotspot to your plan.

Android hotspot and tethering

Google’s page says you can use your phone’s mobile data to connect another phone, tablet or computer, and that most Android phones can share by Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or USB. It warns that some carriers limit or charge extra for tethering and recommends checking with your carrier.

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen.
  2. Tap Hotspot. If it is missing, tap Edit and drag Hotspot into your Quick Settings.
  3. On the other device, open its Wi-Fi list and pick your phone’s hotspot name.
  4. Enter your phone’s hotspot password and tap Connect.

Google’s tip is that you can share your phone’s mobile data with up to 10 other devices via a Wi-Fi hotspot.

Hotspot data usage: a worked example

Every spin, picture and page the lobby loads on your laptop travels through your phone’s mobile data. The numbers below are an example chosen to show the arithmetic, not a measurement of any game or of the lobby.

Example inputValue
Data the session uses per hour100 MB
Plan data for the month2 GB, counted as 2,000 MB
Hours of hotspot play before the plan is gone2,000 / 100 = 20 hours

If your real figure is 300 MB an hour, the same plan lasts about 6.7 hours (2,000 / 300). To get your own figure, read your usage before and after a short session. On an iPhone, Apple says to open Settings, tap Cellular, scroll to the app list and tap Show All. On a Pixel, Google says to open Settings, tap Network and internet, tap SIMs and read the total at the top.

Both vendors add that your carrier measures usage its own way, so check its numbers and your plan limits with the carrier.

Low Data Mode and Data Saver

Apple says Low Data Mode restricts background network use. In general it stops using network data when you are not actively using an app, turns off Background App Refresh and pauses automatic downloads and backups.

  1. On an iPhone with 5G cellular, open Settings, tap Cellular, tap Cellular Data Options, tap Data Mode and choose Low Data Mode.
  2. For Wi-Fi, open Settings, tap Wi-Fi, tap the Info button beside the network and turn on Low Data Mode.
  3. On a Pixel, open Settings, tap Network and internet, then Data Saver, and turn it on. Google says most apps then get background data only over Wi-Fi.

Battery cost and shutting it off

Google’s battery page lists tethering among the actions that keep a connection busy and use battery. Its tethering page gives three habits for extending battery life.

  1. Plug in your devices while tethering.
  2. Turn off tethering connections when you are done with them.
  3. If your phone can turn the hotspot off for you when no device is connected, turn that setting on.

Apple says your devices automatically disconnect from the Personal Hotspot to save battery when you are not using it. For the wider list of settings, see the wider battery life list, and if the hotspot drops, the fixes for a lost signal apply. A laptop browser is its own choice, and the Chrome vs Safari comparison covers the iPhone side.

FAQ

Can I play the JiLi333 lobby on my laptop through my phone hotspot?

The lobby is a web page that shows as one phone-width column, centred on a desktop screen, so a laptop browser opens it. Your phone shares its mobile data with the laptop. Apple and Google both say carriers can limit or charge for that.

How much data does a hotspot session use?

This page cannot name a figure for the lobby. Check your own usage: on an iPhone open Settings, Cellular and scroll to the app list. On a Pixel open Settings, Network and internet, SIMs, then App data usage.

Does a mobile hotspot drain the battery?

Yes. Google lists tethering among the actions that use battery and says to plug in your devices while tethering and turn tethering off when you are done.

Does Low Data Mode work for a hotspot?

Apple says Low Data Mode restricts background network use and can be turned on separately for cellular and Wi-Fi. It stops background network use when you are not actively using an app.
